Care Communities offers unique volunteer opportunities for individuals and organizations to get involved. Care Teams are formed and provide companionship and non-medical practical support to someone living with cancer or HIV. Individuals affected by cancer also have the opportunity to show support to someone going through treatment by talking and interacting with them at local medical facilities.
A: A Care Team is a group of 3-6 volunteers who are screened, trained, and matched to a Care Partner (someone living with a serious illness). Together they share the efforts of providing companionship and support. Duties can include child care, cooking, errands, grocery shopping, laundry, light house cleaning, limited transportation, pet care, respite care (caregiver support), or yard work. Duties do NOT include medical or physical care.
A: Anyone 18 years of age or older who has the interest, ability, and sensitivity to work with people facing a life-threatening illness and a high degree of comfort, decorum, and professional attitude in dealing with people of varied socio-economic status, sexual orientation, and cultural and racial backgrounds.
A: We ask you to commit to at least 4 hours a month with your Care Partner and at least 1 hour a month with your Care Team. Since this is a shared effort among your Care Team, our Volunteer Managers, and our Social Workers, you will always have support.
