A Care Team is a group of 3-6 volunteers who are screened, trained, and matched to a Care Partner (someone living with a serious illness). Together they share the efforts of providing companionship and support.
Duties can include child care, cooking, errands, grocery shopping, laundry, light house cleaning, limited transportation, pet care, respite care (caregiver support), or yard work. Duties do NOT include medical or physical care.
Anyone 18 years of age or older who has the interest, ability, and sensitivity to work with people facing a life-threatening illness and a high degree of comfort, decorum, and professional attitude in dealing with people of varied socio-economic status, sexual orientation, and cultural and racial backgrounds.
We ask you to commit to at least 4 hours a month with your Care Partner and at least 1 hour a month with your Care Team.
Since this is a shared effort among your Care Team, our Volunteer Managers, and our Social Workers, you will always have support.
Prior to being matched, you must complete a single 3 hour training. We are able to train you at our office or come to your office, place of worship, or other professional venue.
Training dates are available here or on the calendar to your right.
Topics covered include Care Communities 101, Non-Medical Practical Care, Understanding Serious Illness (AIDS 101 / Cancer 1010), Substance Abuse & Poverty, Cultural Sensitivity, Communication, and Boundaries.
If you have any questions about the training, email email@example.com.
